Our new Shackleton The Penguin toy – Erin’s simply not letting him go!
So Erin’s got hold of our first sample Shackleton The Penguin plush toy and she’s not letting go of him!
Want one too? Well, here’s the deal…
We’d really love to place our first order and make this happen but first we need your help!
Basically it will take up to 12 weeks for us to receive an initial minimum order of 300 penguins.
However we must first have 300 firm orders to ensure that the ReQuest2021 project does not make a loss.
So if you make a pledged payment now then your card will only be charged if and when we reach 300 orders.
The first 100 people can donate £10, or more, per penguin (inc UK p&p).
The next 200 people can donate £25, or more, per penguin (inc UK p&p).
Non-UK supporters will need to pay a fair nominal extra delivery cost before dispatch.
The white cloth woggles and neckers are included.
£5 Miniature white leather ReQuest2021 woggles are an optional accessory* (inc p&p).
(*Not suitable for under for under 5 year olds)
#ReQuest2021 #ShackletonThePenguin

• Sail to Antarctica in the Winter of ‘21/’22.
• Develop 10 Antarctica Ambassadors.
• Undertake 10 Antarctic Research Projects.
• Produce Educational Fun Resources.
Many of our other large fundraising events have been cancelled due to Coronavirus so we need all the help we can get to hit our fundraising targets.
We do realise this is an extremely tough time for everyone and we are immensely grateful for your valued support!
Once we have covered the cost of production all profits will go to the Kent Scouts ReQuest2021 Antarctic Research Project [Kent County Scout Council – Charity Number 303471]

EPISODE 16 – Mon 1st Feb 2021 – An update on our fundraising efforts, the story of Alan the eleven-year-old Antarctic Krill and the ReQuest interview with Philippa Davies, who hosts the Canterbury-based annual Antarctica enthusiasts’ event – Cantarctica and is also the founder of the Betjeman Society.
Some follow up thoughts from Philippa received after recording for the podcast…
“For variety you are welcome to swap my ginger biscuits for mint imperials. I never have travelled without them and have a tin full in my car. My grandchildren call them magic mints.”
“Another fascinating link is that Louisa Young, Kathleen Scott’s daughter by her second marriage is a goddaughter of Betjeman. So, Betjeman and Scott link.”
The ReQuest2021 podcast is documenting the Kent Scouts #ReQuest2021 Research Project all the way to Antarctica and back again! Interviews, Scouting historical links, events and research project work recorded along the way. Part of Alan Noake’s Antarctic Soundscapes project.

Antarctic Quest 21 – A Strong Project Partner
The ReQuest2021 team are delighted to be partnering with another polar project – Antarctic Quest 21 taking place early in 2022. There is certainly a common ethos shared between the two projects. The Antarctic Quest 21 team will kindly be helping some of the ReQuest2021 team capture research data.
The Antarctic Quest 21 expedition is all about highlighting the values and the spirit of the heroic pioneers of Antarctic Exploration and in particular Sir Ernest Shackleton. It is also about undertaking a journey that will allow the team to contribute to the scientific understanding of what is happening in Antarctica and what this means to every one of us. Finally, it is about extending that knowledge to future generations so that they may also be inspired by the science and adventure of what our forebears have done.

EPISODE 15 – Fri 1st Jan 2021 – A special New Year’s Day extended ReQuest interview with Ann Savours Shirley, historian of polar exploration, both Arctic and Antarctic. She is most widely known for her study of Robert Falcon Scott’s ship HMS Discovery. She spoke in amazing detail about her life for almost an hour and a half! As she has had such a fascinating life it has been shared in its entirety as a bit of polar social history.
NOTE: The interview was recorded back in July 2020 and sadly the ReQuest2021 team have since had to postpone any plans to visit Orkney due to Covid.

Fundraising Superstars!
Fantastic that Si & Seb have been awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation for “superstar fundraising and upholding amazing Scout values”.
These two have raised over £700 for the ReQuest2021 project so far with their 100 mile sail and 100 mile swim!
Silas and Seb are too young to go on the expedition themselves but have been selflessly fundraising for their fellow scouts to go.
One Year To Go!
If all goes to plan (covid willing) exactly twelve months from today the ReQuest2021 team will be setting sail from Ushuaia in Argentina at the foot of South America on a three week research expedition to Antarctica.
To raise awareness and the much needed funds required we are currently running our 12 Days of Christmas Campaign.
